Progress in the Application of Vanadium Oxides in the Cathode of Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries have become a research hotspot in the energy storage field due to their high theoretical specific energy (2600 Wh/kg) and low cost. However, their commercialization is limited by the shuttle effect of polysulfides (LiPSs), resulting in a decrease in cycle stability and Coulomb efficiency. Vanadium oxides, with their unique structure, multiple oxidation states, and excellent catalytic/adsorption properties, have become key materials for suppressing the shuttle effect. This paper systematically reviews the research progress of vanadium oxide-based cathode modifications, classifies and summarizes the cathodes from four aspects: morphology design, ion doping, heterostructure, and composite conductive framework, and prospects the future research directions of lithium-sulfur battery cathodes.
